Ok truthfully, this is an easy cocktail. And it probably doesn’t need to be written up into a full recipe. However, what it does need is why this drink works so well with the food pairing. So I am giving the Prosecco And Ginger it’s own post.

This recipe was created to pair with The Best Gluten-Free Fish and Chips recipe. I originally wanted to get gluten free beer for this recipe, but the store I went to didn’t have any. I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to go to another store to get gluten free beer. So I figured why not give prosecco a shot. Well I am so happy for being lazy because it was delicious! It worked out so well in the fish and chips recipe, and really why wouldn’t it? The extra carbonation makes the fish and chips even lighter.

Well after making the fish and chips I couldn’t let the bottle go to waste so I figured why not make something with it to pair with the fish and chips and this cocktail was born! The ginger beer came into play because I originally thought of making a ginger radler with gluten free beer or a dark and stormy for this food pairing. I figured the flavors would work well and I just love ginger beer. Then I thought, why not try the ginger beer with the Prosecco and it worked so well, it had to be the pairing. While it is easy, this Prosecco And Ginger is the perfect pairing for The Best Gluten-Free Fish and Chips. Give them both a shot, you will not be disappointed!

Prosecco And Ginger Recipe Notes & Substitutions

Prosecco– Use Prosecco, Cava, Champagne or any other sparkling wine you enjoy. Just make sure it isn’t too sweet. If you have a sweet sparkling wine reduce the honey amount in the syrup. It will still work but won’t be as balanced. Conversely, if you have a very dry sparkling wine or like a sweet drink add a little extra honey into the syrup. Get the sparkling wine you like best or that you would use with mimosas and it will work well. Ginger Beer– I like my ginger beer more than ginger ale. The difference is that ginger beer tends to have a bit of spice with it while ginger ale is sweeter. I also find that ginger beer has a stronger ginger flavor that I really enjoy. If you do not have or do not like ginger beer use ginger ale in its place. If you can find a naturally fermented ginger beer I highly recommend going with that. They are always delicious!

Lemon– I use lemon in the recipe, because I like lemon on my fish and chips. However, lie would work well in this drink too if you would prefer.

Not only does this use the rest of the bottle of Prosecco from The Best Gluten-Free Fish and Chips, it tastes amazing together too! First off using the Prosecco in the batter creates a bridge from the cocktail to the food. This helps lay the foundation for the pairing to work. Next, the bright citrus notes from the Prosecco or other sparkling wine pair perfectly with not only the fish but also the fried foods. The citrus notes work well with both of these for the same reason. Acidity. These citrus flavors and the natural acidity of the Prosecco brighten the fish and cut through the fat of fried food. This in turn helps make the already fried fish even lighter!

The additional carbonation from the prosecco further helps to lighten this pairing. Quite like a famous scrubbing bubbles character cleans a bathtub, the carbonation helps pull the food particles on your tongue away. This refreshes your palate for another bite. This also works on the fat that is absorbed by the batter through the frying process. This helps a typically heavy food (like anything fried) feel lighter.

Finally, the ginger beer in the cocktail creates a perfect match for the fried fish for a couple reasons. First, the ginger beer adds a little sweetness to the pairing. The sweetness is great because it helps counter some of the salt from the fries and also enhances flavors. Furthermore, the ginger beer pairs perfectly with the little curry powder in the batter. Ginger is a natural addition in curry powder, paste and curry in general. So using the ginger beer in the cocktail creates another bridge ingredient with the food.

While yes beer would work well with fish and chips, why not choose a lighter and delicious option with this Prosecco And Ginger.
